Parus holsti Length: 13 cm A rare resident in Taiwan found mostly in Sitou, the bird inhabits in broad-leaf forests at elevations under 2,000m, but it is often spotted in mountain areas 1500 m above sea level. In winter, Taiwan Tit moves to lower mountain area and even to big trees near residences at the edge of forests. Taiwan Tits usually stay in small flocks with other Timallidae birds and Paridae birds and search small insects for food. The bird also eats berries, seeds and fruits. During the breeding season, Taiwan Tits produce the best and distinctive songs to be heard in Taiwan. They build their nests in tree holes with plant fiber, feathers and mosses. They have been observed fixing old nests for future use.
