「五色鳥」為臺灣普遍留鳥，分布區從平地至2500公尺，每年的4-8月，選擇適合的樹木或枯木啄洞築巢，繁衍下一代。「蟬」專門靠吸食樹液維生，當吸進大量樹汁後，身體會變得笨重，遇到緊急情況時，會本能地將體液排出體外，減輕體重以利逃跑。本組照片記錄五色鳥親鳥，正準備衝入樹洞育雛，剛好有兩隻蟬在樹洞附近活動，目睹五色鳥朝自己方向衝過來，情急之下立即排液減輕體重，以利逃脫。

The Taiwan barbet is a common resident bird with a distribution from the plains up to 2,500 meters in elevation in Taiwan. Between April and August, it pecks at a tree or dead wood to create a hole for nesting. The cicada feeds on tree sap, becoming heavy once it has ingested its fill. If it encounters an emergency, it will instinctively discharge its body fluid to reduce its weight and escape. In this photo series, a Taiwan barbet is returning to its nest. Two cicadas nearby, sensing the barbet’s approach, discharge fluid as they flee.
