梅雨季開始，吳郭魚也進入了繁殖期。為了順利繁衍下一代，雄魚會用嘴巴把河底的砂石，仔細地叼開，最後「挖」出一個剛好只能容納牠自己和另條母魚的凹洞；雌魚進入後產了卵，就在這裡把卵含在口中孵化下一代。在乾旱缺水的情況下，整個魚塭遍布一個一個凹洞，蔚為奇觀。

The start of the plum rains signals the tilapia breeding season. The male tilapia uses its mouth to move gravel and “dig” a pit large enough for itself and its mate. The female enters the pit and lays eggs. After fertilization, she sucks them up in her mouth, protecting them until they hatch. Due to drought conditions, these pits, which were formed in a fish pond, were exposed, creating a fascinating scene.
